Most charter companies offer full and half-day charters. There are also a number of party boats available for large groups A hired boat will provide tackle, bait, and fishing licenses. If you will be fishing from a boat, chartered or otherwise, within three miles of the coast, you will need a license.

Once you are beyond three miles from the shore, Federal, not State, regulations apply. No license is needed if fishing from a beach or the banks of a tidal creek. When fishing in these areas pay special attention to the signs that designate swimming areas, in which no fishing is allowed during certain parts of the year. Several plantations around Hilton Head Island offer fishing to their residents and guests. Because the plantations are private property, no license is required to fish, but restrictions may apply. Always be sure to check the weather and tidal charts before planning you fishing excursion!
