Shelter Cove Community Park

Shelter Cove Community Park is located mid Island, just off 278. It is behind "The Plaza at Shelter Cove" (Piggly Wiggly & Fuddruckers), next to "The Mall at Shelter Cove". There is plenty of free parking at the park, as well as in the Mall parking lot, in fact; the north end of The Mall parking lot is just a few steps away from the south end of the park. The "center piece" of the park is a beautifully constructed and landscaped veteran's memorial. Tabby walkways lead past the memorial, around a small pond and to an observation deck on Broad Creek. The observation deck is a great "secret place" to enjoy the Tuesday night fireworks, while avoiding the crowds at Shelter Cove.

There is a nice bathroom facility at the park, and a large multi-use area that is often the location for all sorts of Hilton Head festivals and special events. Wine tastings, wing and chili cooking contest, an annual oyster festival and many other activities are planed at Shelter Cove Park, throughout the year.

May thru August the park is also the site of a very popular Tuesday night event. Far less crowded, family oriented, and more accessible than Shelter Cove Harbour; island visitors and Hilton Head residents alike enjoy "Summer Jamz", which benefits the Island Recreation Center, more than "Harbourfest", which is taking place at the same time; just up the creek a bit. Party goers here enjoy free entertainment and dancing, as well as a beer tent and pizza and other "party foods", while the children enjoy the moon bounce and giant slide. Admission is free and it's only five-dollars for the kids to bounce and slide as much as they want!
