In 1997, the Hilton Head Area Hospitality Association began a tradition of celebrating Hilton Head cuisine with the first annual FoodFest. Since the first FoodFest, countless local restaurants as well as food, and beverage vendors have joined the festivities and more than 4,000 visitors and residents are expected at the 2008 event. The Hospitable Waiters Race, the Tailgate Gourmet Challenge, and the Best Bartenders Drink Making Contest are among some of the popular competitions that spectators can enjoy.
Other area organizations including the South Carolina Lowcountry Discovery Museum, The Beaufort County Library, The South Carolina Lowcountry Projects Committee of the Junior League of Savannah, and the Hilton Head Chapter of the American Institue of Wine and Food take part in the Hilton Head FoodFest. The 11th Annual FoodFest will be held September 8-13, 2008.
