The Gullah culture has been present in South Carolina and Georgia since West African slaves were brought to the American coastline. The Gullah Celebration honors not only the history of struggle and liberation of West African slaves in the south, but also their persevering spirituality and tradition.
In 2009, the 13th Annual Hilton Head Island Gullah Celebration will feature events like A Gullah Film Fest, De Arts Ob We People XII Art Show & Sale, A Taste Of Gullah-Food & Entertainment, and much more. This year's Gullah Celebration will begin February 1st and continue through February 28th, 2009.
