Hilton Head's Nearby Locales

Hilton Head Island is located among several islands on the southernmost coastline of South Carolina. Hundreds of thousands of people travel to the South Carolina coast each year. Visitors to Hilton Head Island and its surrounding areas come for many reasons. For one, the spectacular coastline, pristine beaches, and natural waterways, marshes and rivers attract nature lovers and beach lovers alike.

Hilton Head Island is home to some of the most well-preserved coastal shores in South Carolina. Between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intercoastal waterways, fishermen come from all over to charter boats and explore the salt and freshwater fishing. Many of the islands near Hilton Head offer a variety of fishing charter packages, and some of the islands have freshwater lakes and ponds for fishermen who prefer to keep their feet on solid ground. World-renowned golf courses and tennis tournaments draw people into Hilton Head and its surrounding areas throughout the year.

Many of the surrounding areas, like Bluffton and Beaufort, SC are considered historical landmarks and have played significant roles in the history of our country. Pinckney Island, just across the water from Hilton Head, has been sanctioned as a Wildlife Refuge and provides an unspoiled habitat for countless endangered coastal creatures.

Daufuskie Island, another relatively unspoiled paradise, is not a wildlife refuge, but does work to preserve the natural splendor of the Hilton Head area by not allowing gasoline-engine cars to run on the island. Electric carts, bicycles, and walking are the only modes of transportation on this South Carolina island. Whether you are just driving through on your way to Hilton Head, or wish to make a few day trips, many of Hilton Head's surrounding towns and islands offer activities and attractions sure to impress any visitor to the area.
