Beaufort, SC is located approximately forty miles from Hilton Head Island and is known for both its rich history as well as its southern hospitality. Beaufort was discovered in 1514 by the Spanish and was later chartered by the British in 1711. Being the second-oldest established town in South Carolina, Beaufort has played roles in both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. The town's primary industries thrived during the eighteenth century when indigo and rice plantations where in their prime.
At 713 Craven Street, vacationers will find The Beaufort Arsenal Museum, circa 1798, where relics of war, nature and early American industry can be found. Enjoying the history and southern charm of Beaufort comes effortlessly while traveling through the historic district on a horse-drawn carriage or gliding along the coastal waterways on a sailboat or kayak. Each year, Beaufort hosts an Annual Soft Shell Crab Festival in April as well the Beaufort Memorial Cycling Classic in late spring.
